Volute multi-disc screw press - for stable and efficient sludge dewatering
Volute's technical solution has a number of advantages over other sludge dewatering equipment such as centrifuges, filter presses and traditional screw presses. A Volute sludge dewaterer has a self-cleaning design, the screw rotates at a very low speed, making it reliable, while running at a low noise level. The equipment can be run around the clock without the need to have an operator or technician on site. It handles all types of sludge from 0.2 % TS upwards, which means that the quality of the sludge cake is stable and consistent. Depending on the composition of the incoming sludge, dry sludge TS levels of 17-38% are achieved. The reject water of the volute is often very clean.
Improve the performance of the entire sludge dewatering process
MAF Pump has as TE installed a GS-302 in Boxholm ARV. Since Volute was installed and replaced previous technology, all parameters have developed for the better. The dry matter content of the outgoing sludge increased, polymer consumption decreased and the reject became significantly cleaner. Thanks to the purity of the Volute reject, the load on the basins is reduced, which further improves the dry solids content of the outgoing dry sludge.
Stable sludge dewaterer with reliable operation
Our sludge dewatering installations not only optimise performance, but we also ensure that the equipment and process are smooth and easy to maintain. By measuring in real time the TS content of incoming sludge and the inflow of both sludge and polymer, the machine can easily be set to run at the right dimensioned capacity. You set the number of kgTS/h, and the various flows are then adjusted to achieve this. With this control method, a more even process is achieved with drier outgoing TS content, as well as reduced polymer consumption.
Clean reject provides more stable processes
The ring pack on a Volute consists of two sections. The first section does not apply any pressure, but separated water flows directly into the reject tank. The second section applies some pressure.
By only returning reject water from the first stage to the plant, a very clean reject is obtained, usually between 40-200 mg/l. The reject from the second stage is returned to the flocculation tank. With this sludge dewatering process, the whole procedure becomes more stable while reducing the load on the plant.

At MAF Pump, we have the expertise to carry out the entire installation of your new Volute sludge dewatering equipment. Since we have been manufacturing progressive cavity pumps since the early 90s, we have a long and broad experience of sludge handling in various forms.
We can help you with, for example:

- install lifting devices, etc.
Our project managers have Bas U and Bas P qualifications and our welders have a licence for stainless steel. After the installation is complete, we carry out a familiarisation of the process, and provide your staff with training so that you can safely take over the operation of the sludge dewatering system and all the surrounding equipment.
Test rig
All sludge behaves slightly differently. To find an optimal process for dewatering, it is very important to find the right polymer and the right configuration for the sludge dewatering system.
